Making A Gift

UConn’s School of Fine Arts has achieved national recognition as a superb incubator for students pursuing a career in the arts. The School provides students with the highest level of professional training in an environment that encourages development as both artists and individuals. Through comprehensive programs from communication design to theoretical issues, from acting to puppetry, from music composition to opera production, the School engages the intellectual and creative capacities of the university community.
Innovative partnerships with professional arts organizations in the region, including a unique collaboration with the Metropolitan Opera, have been significant in advancing it among the leading schools in the country. The combination of an outstanding faculty, members of which are veterans and scholars in their fields, and the exceptional resources available thanks to generous individuals, result in an unmatched environment for learning and creating. Raymond and Beverly Sackler, for example, have endowed a number of programs that carry their name: the Art and Archaeology Lecture Series, the Metropolitan Opera Collaboration project, the Master Artists and Scholars Institute, Artists in Residence Program for the Advancement of the Arts, Music Composition Prize and the Music Commission. The William Benton Museum of Art and its new Evelyn Gilman Gallery is another example of how generous individuals are helping to enrich the fine arts environment at UConn.

A top priority for the School is construction of a new Fine Arts Center designed by acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, uniting its programs under one roof. This exciting concept envisions a premier arts facility that is symbolic of UConn’s growing reputation for innovation in the arts. Private support will be fundamental to the initiation of this project, with the ultimate beneficiaries being UConn students, the University community, and citizens of the state.
